Robert L. "Bob" Richmond
September 18, 1923 - July 1, 2015

Robert L. "Bob" Richmond, 91, of Beaumont, died peacefully at home, Wednesday, July 1, 2015, surrounded by his wife and all his children.  He was born  September 18, 1923, in Wiergate, Texas, to Oma Dickerson and Curtis Richmond, and had been a long time resident of Beaumont.

A proud veteran of World War II, Bob served as a co-pilot in the 404th Bomb Squadron of the United States Army Air Corps, flying B-24's. Stationed in the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska, he flew thirty bombing missions over the Japanese Islands. Following active duty, Bob continued in the Air Force Reserve, reaching the rank of Lt Colonel. He also served in the Beaumont Civil Air Patrol. Following active duty, Bob returned to Beaumont and married Ellouise McGown, and their marriage has been blessed with five children, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Bob retired in 1984 after eighteen years as a Chemical Laboratory Technician with Mobil Exxon, and eighteen years previously with Pure Oil Company. After retirement, Bob was able to devote his full attention to family and the activities he loved, especially enjoying camping, hunting, and fishing with his sons. He and Ellouise also trained and served as Beaumont Citizens on Patrol with the police department. A true member of the Greatest Generation, Bob determined if it was broken, he could fix it. He was always frugal and simple with his own needs and wants, but exceedingly generous with his family and others.

Bob was an active member of Roberts Avenue Methodist Church for over fifty years, and helped facilitate the transition to McCabe United Methodist as it is now known. He held many leadership positions there, including Chairman of the Board, but no job was too small for his servant's heart. He and Ellouise later joined Wesley United Methodist, where Bob was a member of the Kitchen Class. Bob's priorities in life were God, country, and family, and he was forever faithful to all three.

Bob is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Ellouise M. Richmond; children, Sandra Carrington and her husband Don, of Austin; John Richmond and his wife Catherine, of Beaumont; Ronnie Richmond and his wife Cheryl, of Pineville, Louisiana; Donna Sachs and her husband Eric, of Houston; and Scott Richmond, of Vidor;  grandchildren, Christopher Carrington, Lauren Crommett, Leslie Prothro, Katie Westbrook, Kelli Riley, Kristin Franks, Brooke Y'Barbo and Blair Richmond; nine great-grandchildren; and brother Jerry Richmond and his wife, Ann, of Lumberton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Mattie Mae Williams and Hazel Freeman.
