April 17, 1950 - May 28, 2015 |
Raymond M. “Randy” Edwards, Sr., 65, of Beaumont, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015, with his family by his side. Randy was born April 17, 1950, in Beaumont, to Betty Jean Edwards and Raymond Hugh Edwards. He attended high school at French High until the age of 17 when he joined the United States Army in February of 1968 and served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. He returned home to Beaumont in February of 1971, where he soon began working for Southern Pacific Railroad, later known as Union Pacific, as a brakeman for 40 years until his retirement in 2010. Randy and Carol Kolojaco were married on January 12, 1985, in Beaumont. Randy was foremost a family man and also known for being an avid fisherman, craftsman, and a proud father to his two daughters and five sons. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, coaching baseball at South Park Little League, and being outside in his yard. He never turned down a trip across the border to gamble at his favorite casinos or locally to play bingo. He was a professional tickler towards all grandchildren, great chef, and had the world’s largest sweet tooth. He will be remembered as a wonderful father, beloved husband, adoring grandfather, and loyal friend. Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Carol Jean Edwards; one brother, Terry Edwards and wife, Pam, of Slidell, Louisiana; daughters, Tammy Downey and husband, Joey, of Klein; Wendy Dietz of Sealy; sons, Randy Edwards, Jr. and wife, Brieann, of Beaumont; James Edwards of Beaumont; Kenneth Edwards and wife, Lani, of Lumberton; Darron Edwards and wife, Heather, of Beaumont; and Dillon Edwards of Beaumont. He also leaves behind his eleven treasured grandchildren, Kara, Chaz, Ty, Peyton, Landon, Brayedin, Bryson, Brody, Wayde, Emery, and Paislee. He is preceded in death by his parents. A memorial visitation for Mr. Edwards will begin at 2:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His cremation will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that donations be made towards Dillon Edwards’, Randy Sr.’s youngest son, college education. Dillon will graduate from Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School in the spring of 2016 and has hopes to pursue a career in the electrical field. The family is graciously accepting payments made payable to Dillon Edwards education fund.
