Bernice Gerald “Jerry” Cowart, 77, of Nederland, died Monday, May 25, 2015.  He was born on July 25, 1937, in Beaumont, to Dorothy Ibeck and Bernice Brandon Cowart, and had been a longtime resident of the area.

Jerry enjoyed saltwater fishing, music and singing, was an active member and volunteer at his church, where he used his remarkable skills as a woodworker.  He retired from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Beaumont Chemical Plant as a Maintenance Supervisor.

He poured his energy and life into shaping the lives of his children and grandchildren.  His life was a testament to the love he had for his entire family, tirelessly giving of himself, his time, and his talents.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Peggy Cowart; daughter, Laura Henderson; stepson, Darrin Dykes and his wife, Beth; daughter-in-law, Helga Cowart Briscoe; grandchildren, Jared Henderson; Tyler Henderson and his wife, Shelly; Stephanie Cowart; Steven Dykes; Brian Dykes; and Christine Moore and her husband, Chris; great-grandchildren, Nolan Moore, Isabella Moore, Gabrielle Moore, Tristan Hales, Morgan Hales, Kaitlyn Henderson; sister, Karen Eller and her husband, Ronny; and brothers, Roy Cowart and Danny Cowart.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Bernice Brandon Cowart; and sons Steven Dale Cowart and Kirk Cowart.

A gathering of Mr. Cowart’s family and friends will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.  His funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, May 29, 2015, at Christian Fellowship Church, 3950 Pointe Parkway, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
