Ted E. Moor, Jr. 
September 18, 1932 - May 3, 2015

Theodric “Ted” E. Moor, Jr., 82, of Beaumont, died Sunday, May 3, 2015, in Woodville. He was born on September 18, 1932, in Beaumont, to Virginia Amanda Ligon Moor and Theodric Edwin Moor.

Ted attended the University of The South – Sewanee. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Strong Moor, in 1953. He entered the insurance business in 1957 after graduating from Sewanee and serving three years in the United States Air Force. The first years in the insurance industry were spent working in an insurance agency co-founded by his father, T.E. Moor, Sr. The insurance business grew rapidly to include the local agency, a surplus lines agency, an insurance company, and a premium finance operation – making it one of the largest insurance operations west of the Mississippi River.

Ted worked in many civic activities and was committed to improving the quality of life in Beaumont. He purchased the Amarillo Gold Sox – a AA baseball club affiliated with the San Diego Padres. He moved the team to Beaumont in 1982 and renamed it the Beaumont Golden Gators. He helped raise money to bring the Texas Energy Museum to Beaumont. He served as vice president of the museum board beginning in 1988. Governor Bill Clements appointed him to the Board of Regents of Lamar University in 1987. He was elected Chairman of the Board of Regents in 1989 and again in 1991. He also served on the vestry of St. Mark’s Church, and on the boards of the YMCA, Camp Fire Girls, All Saint’s School, and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.

Survivors include daughter, Kathleen Moor Shipley and her husband, Wesley, of Beaumont; sons, Ted Moor, III and his wife, Barbara, also of Beaumont; and Glenn D. Moor of Lubbock; granddaughters, Jennifer Shipley Trenbeath and her husband, John; Kimberly Shipley Moore and her husband, Chris; Kelly Moor; Kristin Moor; Sarah Moor; and Rachel Moor; great-grandsons, Damian Phelps and Mason Phelps; and brother, Terry Moor and his wife, Susan, of Woodstock, Vermont.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Moor.

A gathering of Mr. Moor’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., in The Cloister, with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 680 Calder Street, Beaumont. His interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
