Marian "Jean" Jeannine Chapman 
August 21, 1929 - April 18, 2015

Marian Jeannine (Jean) Chapman of Beaumont passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the age of 85. She was born in Troy, Alabama, on August 21, 1929, to Marian Hidra Cayson and Alma Jones. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of forty-nine years, Harvey Amos Chapman.

 

She is survived by her son, Harvey G. Chapman and his wife, Sherryl, of Plano, Texas; her grandson, Harvey Brandon Chapman; and three great-grandchildren, Harvey Chase Chapman, Robert Thomas Chapman, and Gage Chapman of The Woodlands, Texas; sister, Martha Dishman of Beaumont, Texas; and numerous nephews and nieces and their families.

 

In Odessa, Texas, she was a member of the ABWA, Permian Chapter, and served as treasurer, and in 1966-67 president of the chapter. In July 1967, she was honored by the Roadrunner Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association and named “Woman of the Year”.

 

She graduated with a BA in Sociology, U.T. Permian Basin in 1974; Masters of Arts in Counseling, U.T. Permian Basin in 1978; and a Master of Arts in Social Work, Our Lady of the Lake in 1983.  She spent twenty-six years as a Social Worker.   

 

Following her career in Social Work, she devoted many hours as a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital as well as North End Baptist Church, of where she worked with the Music Director, and sang in the Senior Choir.

 

A gathering of Mrs. Chapman’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. An additional gathering will begin at 10:00 a.m. with her funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 23, 2015, at North End Baptist Church, 5115 Eastex Freeway, Beaumont. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 24, 2015, at Roselawn Memorial Park, 3801 Roselawn Drive, Denton.

 

Jean was a lady of true compassion and one who will be sorely missed. Her love and memories will remain forever in the hearts and sole of all her family members and friends.
