Richard L. Nelson, 69, of Nederland, died Friday, April 10, 2015, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. A native and lifelong resident of the area, he was born on November 6, 1945, in Port Arthur, to Irene Reed and Leland Moore Nelson.

Richard was a United States Army veteran and retired from Sabine Towing after twenty-five years of service as a Harbor tug captain. He was a member of the SIU Union.

Survivors include his loving wife, Marella Nelson of Nederland; sons, Chris Nelson and his wife, Latricia and Coy Nelson and his wife, Hannah, all of Groves; and Troy Baker and his wife, Stacy, of Nederland; daughter, Miranda Vasquez and her husband, Gustavo, of Nederland; sixteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Dale Cessana.

A gathering of Mr. Nelson’s family and friends will begin at 11:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
