Gwendolyn Oneida Smethers, 89, of Silsbee, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. She was born on March 22, 1926, in Village Mills, to Mary Jane Stutts Dunlap and Ernest Lee Dunlap.

Survivors include her son, Ernest Gene Sparks and his wife, Betty, of Lumberton; daughter-in-law, Gwen Sparks of Beaumont; five grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Albert Adam Sparks and Grover L. Smethers; and sons, Michael Wayne Sparks and Albert David Sparks.

A gathering of Mrs. Smethers’ family and friends will be from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze, with her graveside service to follow at 2:00 p.m., at Holland Cemetery, Kountze.
