Margie B. Hawley
October 8, 1933 - February 7, 2015

Margie Brassier Hawley, 81, of China, died peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Margie was born on October 8, 1933, in China, Texas, to Doris Theriot Brassier and Rayhiel Brassier.

She graduated from China High School in 1951. Margie began dating the love of her life, Frank Hawley, her senior year, and soon after graduation, she and Frank were married in Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.  She and Frank lived several places while he worked for a pipe line company.  In 1955, they moved back to China and Margie worked for Camp Fire Girls as she and Frank began farming rice & soy beans. In 1957, they had the first of three daughters.

Margie was a devout Christian Catholic that faithfully attended Our Lady of Sorrows. She was a member of the altar society and served on the parish council finance committee.  She was an excellent cook and baker; her German chocolate layer cake, pecan and coconut cream pies always brought top dollar at the community auctions! Margie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  A woman of strength and self-discipline, she had many gifts and talents that she taught her daughters and grandchildren.   The greatest gift she bestowed to her family was the gift of faith and her unwavering unconditional love.

She was an avid basketball fan who had been known to get escorted out of the gym due to her criticism of the officiating! She became an experienced seamstress out of necessity of clothing three girls.  Margie loved playing all kinds of games and looked forward to going to her monthly card game in Nome.  An avid reader, she taught her children to love books and learning.  She also loved playing the slot machines and going to the casinos.

Margie is survived by three daughters, Sheri Jenkins and her husband, Jeffrey, of Winnie; Tina Almond and her husband, Doug, of Beaumont; and Tammy Ballard and her husband, Michael, of Fannett; grandchildren, Christopher Jenkins and his wife, Waverly; Amanda Almond; Trent Almond; Ashton Almond; Aaron Ballard; and Braeden Ballard; brother-in-law, Lee Broussard; sister-in-law, LaRue Hawley; cousin, Melba Theriot; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank T. Hawley; and sister, Gladys Brassier Broussard.

A gathering of Mrs. Hawley’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 5:00 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2015, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 245 Highway 90, China, Texas. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
