Emmy Lou Ferguson
September 9, 1923 - January 29, 2015

Emmy Latimer Ferguson, 91, of Beaumont, departed this life Thursday, January 29, 2015. She was born on September 9, 1923, in Lohn, to Tishie Huffman and Charles R. Latimer.

Emmy had many artistic skills. She was an excellent seamstress, an expert at crocheting, a magnificent cook, and her flower arrangements were the first to be sold at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Bazaar each year. Besides being a Bluebird and Cub Scout leader, she was always visiting those who were ill, bringing one of her wonderful chocolate pies. She was also a part of her community helping with political campaigns and supporting issues she felt were important. Emmy’s nickname was “ELF” in the business world where she was the financial officer at Highway 90 Auto Auction, which she and her husband owned for many years. She was an accomplished duplicate bridge player, achieving the rank of Life Master.  For many years she enjoyed playing with her husband, friends, and partners at the Beaumont Bridge Studio.

Her love and memories will remain in the hearts of her children, Betty Ferguson and her husband, Jim Matera, of Golden, Colorado; James Ferguson and his wife, Flo; and Tish Ferguson, all of Beaumont; grandchildren, Rebecca Gordon of Boulder, Colorado, Keri Leavell of Houston, and Sarah Huff of Nome; great-grandchildren, Lucas Leavell, Garrett Marcantel, and Emmy Huff; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marion “Fergie” Ferguson; three brothers; and four sisters.

A gathering of Mrs. Ferguson’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a private family service to follow Friday, February 6, 2015, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

The family wishes to thank Harbor Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care with special thanks to Traci, her hospice nurse.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
