Jewel and Dale met in Dallas where they both were living in the same apartment complex. She had moved from Jackson, Mississippi to Dallas on her way to Denver, Colorado where she had been offered a job in a doctor’s office there.  They started dating in Dallas and Dale moved back to Fort Worth, only to have Jewel follow him.  She rented an apartment in Fort Worth and he rented a lake house on Lake Worth.
