Robert "Jeff" J. Munro 
July 25, 1917 - December 4, 2014

Robert Jefferson “Jeff” Munro, 97, of Beaumont, passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, December 4, 2014. A lifelong resident of Beaumont, he was born on July 25, 1917, to the late Mary LaPorte McFarlane Munro and William Harvey Munro, Sr.

 

After graduating Beaumont High School, Jeff entered the military during World War II and served with the Tenth Mountain Division in Italy and other European sectors for three years. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart for the Po Valley Campaign.

 

Jeff was also a graduate of Lamar College and The University of Texas, where he received a degree in business administration. It was at The University of Texas, where he became a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

 

Jeff was the owner of Jeff Munro Agency and served as President of the Beaumont Association of Insurance Agents. He was also co-owner of Munro Dry Cleaning Company and President of Building Rentals Corporation.

 

Jeff’s civic activities included Director of Southeast Texas Heart Association and annual service on the United Appeals Advance Gifts. He was past President and former King of the Neches River Festival and President of The Knights of Neches. He served on the Board of Directors of The Beaumont Club and the Beaumont Country Club, and was a member of The Tower Club and the Cotillion Club.

 

Jeff was unique, lovable man who was very gentle and kind to everyone he met. He lived life to the fullest, was totally unselfish, happy, and so proud of his heritage. Jeff adored his family and many friends, who he always made feel special. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed a good game of golf.

 

Jeff was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served on the Administrative Board, as well as the Building Committee.

 

Jeff is survived by his fiancée of over ten years, Connor Smith; daughter, Lois Ann Wall and her husband, Charles W. Wall, Jr.; granddaughter, Jennifer Nichols and her husband, Barton Nichols; four great-grandchildren, Munro, Hudson, Hayes, and Lilly Claire Nichols; brother, Richard E. Munro; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, Edna Earle Vincent Munro; and two brothers, William H. Munro, Jr. and Marion F. Munro.

 

In his last years, he had wonderful care at his home by his caregivers, Roslyn Isadore, Vie Gilford, Crystal Robinson, Neoma Robinson, and Merts Wilson. The family is so grateful for their support as well as services rendered by Texas Home Health Hospice and Dr. Jeremy Huff.

 

A gathering of Mr. Munro’s family and friends will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 8, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison Avenue, Beaumont. His interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
