Barbara Joyce Porter Scott 
December 3, 1938 - November 12, 2014

Barbara Joyce Porter Scott, 75, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. She was born on December 3, 1938, to Mattie Coreen Cook and Jeff L. Porter in Graham, Texas. Barbara was an avid tennis player. She was the first tennis pro at the City of Beaumont Tennis Center. She shared her love of tennis to others by teaching tennis at The University of Texas, Smith College of Girls in Massachusetts, and Bowling Green University. She also taught at the United States Air Base in Japan. All of Barbara’s friends were very important to her and would give the shirt off her back to help anyone.

Survivors include her brothers, Larry Porter and his wife, Jalle, of Northwest Forest; granddaughter, Amanda Orendorff; several great-grandchildren; nieces, Pam Porter, Catherine Edwards, and Jeanne Bubb; nephews, Larry Porter, Roy “Tiger” Jones, and Dane Duhon; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Scott; and sister, Patsy Porter.

A memorial service for Mrs. Scott will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
