Dr.
Gary C. Baine, 77, a lifelong resident of Beaumont, fell asleep in the Lord,
Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Born on October 9, 1937, he attended school at
Junker Elementary, Dick Dowling Junior High, and Beaumont High. Dr. Baine received a degree in Biology from
Lamar College of Technology in 1960 and graduated with high honors from the
University of Texas Dental School in Houston in 1964. While a dental student he
met and eventually married Sharon Ann Tucker, from Pasadena, Texas, who would
be his sweetheart for over fifty years. He
practiced dentistry in Beaumont for forty-seven years and served on the medical
staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for over thirty years. Dr. Baine served his
country as an officer in the Dental Corps, United States Army Reserves, for six
years in positions ranging from medic to battalion surgeon and attaining the rank
of Captain. A
lifelong and active member of St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church,
Dr. Baine humbly served in many capacities ranging from choir director to
Sunday school superintendent. He was a motivational speaker, freelance writer,
a public school volunteer, and a Scoutmaster of twenty-eight years touching
countless boys lives in the community. Dr. Baine was recognized locally,
regionally, and nationally for his selfless volunteerism. He has left a lasting
legacy of dedication to the principles of duty to God,
duty to country and others, and lastly duty to oneself. He was a man who deeply
loved his family and his country. His life was an example of patriotism and
commitment to preserving the American system grounded in the Constitution. He
is survived by his wife, Sharon; sister, Emily Keriotis; four sons; a daughter;
four daughters-in-law; and nine grandchildren. Dr.
Baine is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Louis and Alice Baine; brother,
Donald Baine; sister-in-law, Beverly Baine; and sister, Charlotte Ann Baine. A
gathering of Dr. Baine’s family and friends will be Friday, November 7, 2014,
from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
A Trisagion will be held at 7:15 p.m., at St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox
Christian Church, 690 North 15th Street, Beaumont. His funeral
service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 8, 2014, at St. Michael
Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, with interment to follow at St. Michael
Orthodox Cemetery, Beaumont. Memorial
