Ray Childress, 60, of Kountze, died Monday, October 27, 2014.  He was born on July 3, 1954, in Houston, to Joy Nell Hawthorn Childress and Joel Ronald Childress.  Ray was a retired fitter/welder and longtime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Silsbee.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Childress; children, Terah Jackson and her husband, Christopher, of Brenham; Trecia Petersen and her husband, Ken, of Humble; Joel Childress and his wife, Angela, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Rebecca Schabatka and her husband, Scott, of Kountze; grandchildren, Thomas Van Steensburg of Biloxi, Mississippi; Jacob and Connor Vansteensburg, both of Brenham; Jonah, Nathan, and Aaron Childress, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Savannah and Braxtyn Petersen, both of Humble; Tara Davis and her husband, Trey and their daughter, Lana, of Hernando, Mississippi; and Chad, Ryan, and Ella Schabatka, all of Kountze; mother, Joy Myers of Kountze; and brothers, Gene Childress and his wife, Debra of Silsbee and Kenneth Childress of Baytown. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Ron Childress.

A gathering of Mr. Childress’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 31, 2014, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.  His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 2014, at  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 8622 FM 418, Silsbee, with interment to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.
