Jeannine
L. Pate, 85, of Beaumont, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2014, at Baptist
Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Her husband of sixty-four years was by her side as
she went peacefully to be with the Lord. Jeannine was born on April 3, 1929, to
Flay Floyd and Samuel William Lyon in Durant, Oklahoma. Jeannine had been a
resident of Beaumont for sixty-six years.
She
is survived by her husband, Matt D. Pate, Jr.; son, Matt Drake Pate III and his
wife, Vickie; and daughter, Paula Pate Beaty and her husband, Dale.
Jeannine
is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Charlene Wilson.
After
graduating from Durant High School in 1947, she began her college career at Southeastern
State University in her hometown. She was encouraged to attend college by her high
school teachers. Jeannine understood the
importance of investing in young people and their future. She was one of the original
founders of the Durant High School Class of 1947 Scholarship. This scholarship
has assisted many Durant students throughout the years with their education and
is still active today.
After
moving to Beaumont, marrying and having two children, she continued her
education at Lamar University. She earned a teaching degree and several
Master’s degrees. She had a passion for teaching and impacted many lives
through her encouragement and counseling of students. Jeannine taught high
school students at Lumberton HS, South Park HS, and Westbrook HS. She retired as
an administrator and enjoyed many good years of retirement. Jeannine earned
many awards throughout her educational career.
A
loving wife, mother, and friend, she will be missed by all who knew and loved
her. She had a beautiful spirit and
witty sense of humor, always sharing a smile. She was a
mother that led by example who taught her children about unconditional love and
the act of giving and sharing towards others. Jeannine also loved her furry friends.
A
private family service was held on Sunday, October 19, 2014, at
Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
