James "Danny" D. Hall
April 12, 1939 - October 2, 2014

“This is the day that the Lord Has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.”  Ps 118:4

Danny Hall also known as “Papa,” “Uncle D,” or “Pork Chop”, 75, of Beaumont, died Thursday, October 2, 2014, at his home.

Born on April 12, 1939, in Opelika, Alabama, Danny became a Texan as a pre-teen when his family moved to Port Neches.  Danny grew up on the Neches River.  His days were filled with water skiing, hunting and fishing with his family and friends.  He took every opportunity to enjoy fresh and salt water fishing, walking the jetties, catching flounder and running his boat to all his secret spots.  Danny was also quite the tennis player growing up and even played on the tennis team at Texas A&M during college.

He met and married his childhood sweetheart, Barbara, and they were together fifty-four years until his passing.  After marriage, Danny became an accomplished cook.  He loved to get the family together around the table.

Danny became a Christian as a young father and went on to serve under several pastors as a deacon and elder.  He loved to sing in the choir, and he sang all the time!  He also loved to pray for those who were sick.  Danny was a man of great faith.    Danny was a Sunday School Teacher for thirty plus years, ministering to youth and young married couples.  He and Barbara were truly a team and have many stories to tell about all the young people they loved and served.

Danny and Barbara had two children, Jay and Jennifer.  He took great joy in the special times he had with them as they grew up.  Music, drama, sports and more made for an eventful life!  Danny’s greatest joy was his kids.  In later life, he was completely devoted to his grandchildren.

The last nineteen months of Danny’s life were lived out bravely as a quadriplegic.  An automobile accident changed life as he knew it and made each day a new challenge, but no one ever heard him complain.  He was a great patient and, once again, a source of courage to all those around him.

Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Hall; son, Jay Hall and his wife, Kelley; daughter, Jennifer Pickerill and her husband, Andrew; grandchildren, Seth Daniel Hall and his wife, Becca, Zachary James Hall, Bethany Grace Hall, Tess Elizabeth Thomas, Trinity Hope Thomas, and Drew Pickerill; great-grandchildren, Guston Hall, Wiley Hall, and Levi Hall.

A gathering of Mr. Hall’s family and friends will be Monday, October 6, 2014, beginning at 2:30 p.m. with his funeral service to follow at 4:30 p.m. at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.  His graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Marietta, Texas.

Thank you Papa for loving us so good!

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Hall’s memory to Some Other Place, 1155 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont, 77701.

Mathew 25:40 “The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of those brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

The Hall family wishes to express their grateful appreciation to Altus Home Hospice and their caretaker, Kettlie Watson for their tender care and mercies.
