Mary Eudelle Smith, 94, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont.  Born July 21, 1920, in Mound City, Illinois, she is the daughter of Bertha Ulrich Matthews and Reverend Samuel Matthews.

Mary was a devoted Christian, member of Trinity United Methodist Church for forty years, organist, hand bell director, and belonged to the John Land Sunday School Class.  She loved music, traveling and most of all, her husband of seventy-two years, Don.

Mary is survived by her husband, Donald Gordon Smith of Beaumont; sons, Reverend Patrick Smith and his wife, Vickie, of Deer Park; Richard Smith and his wife, Patty, of Kingwood; and Gordon Smith and his wife, Chrys, of Surf Side, California; daughter, Nancy Ritter of Beaumont; Janet Perisho of Richardson; and Trudy Johnson and her husband, James, of Beaumont; brother, Harold Matthews of Hillsboro, Illinois; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and one sister.

The Smith Family would like to thank Dr. Mark Toups and his nurse, Kathy, for taking such wonderful care of our mother; to the entire staff at Harbor Hospice for the wonderful care Mom received during her last days; and mostly to her devoted caregiver, Mrs. Celeste Berwick.

A memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison Avenue, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Cremation arrangements were held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
