Beau Hicks' first love was helping young boys grow and mature into men.  He officiated high school and college football for fifty-nine years, dating back to 1957.  Beau knew and taught the "rules of football" to anyone interested, all across Texas. The San Antonio chapter, because of Beau's endless work to help educate officials, renamed their pre-season clinic the 'Beau Hicks Memorial Clinic'. He officiated in the Southwest Conference and worked for the Big 12. He was selected to work in twelve bowl games including the Cotton Bowl and the Aloha Bowl. For twenty years following his retirement from the Big 12, Beau scouted college officials to work for the NFL. He continued to officiate high school games when his schedule permitted. In 2012, at 81, he officiated five games and in 2013, he worked one last game. Days before his passing, TASO officials from throughout the state came to Beaumont to present Beau with the highest award an official can receive - The Lifetime Achievement Award. They called him a teacher, a mentor and a role model who helped shape not only their careers, but their lives. Beau Hicks NEVER retired from officiating football, God simply called him home to work in the greatest conference of all time. Be happy for Beau, he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and has received the ultimate award a person can receive.

Harry Thomas "Beau" Hicks, Jr., was born on July 27, 1931, and passed away on August 24th, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda Corrigan Hicks on February 5, 2014; his brother, Wayne Hicks; sisters, Sandra Hicks-Barnes and Joyce Montau; and great-granddaughter, Ava Jane Miller. Beau was a life-long resident of Southeast Texas, graduated from High Island High School and attended Lamar Tech University, where he played football.

Beau was employed as a fireman for the city of Beaumont before enlisting into the United States Marine Corps in 1951.  Upon returning to Beaumont, he worked for Magnolia Refining and Mobil Oil before becoming a member of Pipefitter's Local 195 where he worked until he retired in 1983.  Beau later went to work for his church, Wesley United Methodist, and again retired in 2013. Beau was a loyal member of the Masonic Tolerance Lodge #1165 where he faithfully served as an officer in every position of the lodge.

Survivors include sons, Michael Hicks and Steve Hicks; daughter, Cindy Hicks; grandchildren, Erin Hicks, Andrea Jestice, Stevie Hicks, Cassie Polozola, Josh Hicks, Ashley Hicks, Krissy Hicks; great-grandchildren, Dade Castille, Shaun Darrell, Olivia Jestice, Evee O'Bier, Mackenzie Lowe, Maddison Polozola; sister, Margaret Jones; brother, Larry Joe Hicks; sisters-in-law, Doris Knupple and Polly Wells; and many nieces and nephews. 

Individuals honored to be pallbearers are Mike Defee, George Bryant, Stevie Hicks, Billy Hicks, Bill Anger, Steve Lucas, Don Mossca, Mike Wetzel, Bill Recci, Butch Cooley, Johnny Sullivan, Coach Matt Burnett, Coach Danny Ray Hooks, Eddie Williams, and Bob Wortham. All members of the Beaumont chapter of TASO are honorary pallbearers.

A gathering of Beau’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.

All football officials attending are requested to wear your game striped shirt to the funeral.  All football coaches and former coaches attending are requested to wear your teams jersey or shirt to both the visitation and/or the funeral.
