J. R. Odom, Jr. 
September 27, 1915 - August 20, 2014

J.R. Odom, Jr., 98, of San Antonio, formerly of Beaumont, died Thursday, August 20, 2014, at Franklin Park Stone Oak Assisted Living in San Antonio. He was born on September 27, 1915, to Madeline Cuntz Odom and James Richard Odom, in St. Landry Parrish, Louisiana. J.R. was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II. He retired from Feigleson Company as a foreman after thirty-five years. J.R. was a lifetime member of the Southpark Lions Club and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over twenty-five years.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Peggy Odom Fleming; grandchildren, Kent Evans and his wife, Dora, of San Antonio and Mark Evans of Austin; great-grandchildren, Acelyn Evans and Elliana Evans; nieces, Janice and Anne; nephews, Rick, Philp, and Tom; and various other nieces and nephews from the Arrington side of the family.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clara Arrington Odom; sister, Myrtle Ruth Odom; and brother, Gilbert Ray Odom.

 

A gathering of Mr. Odom’s family and friends will begin at 2:00 p.m. with his funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison Avenue, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
