Rodney James Tompkins 
June 9, 1946 - August 9, 2014

Rodney James Tompkins, 68, of Port Acres, died Saturday, August 9, 2014. He was born on June 9, 1946, in Port Arthur, to Thelma Lucille Monk and Johnny H. Tompkins. Rodney retired from Gulf States as a Sub Station Operator after thirty-three years of service.

 

He loved hunting, especially duck hunting, fishing, and CB Radios. Rodney and Marion were Organizational Leaders for the 4H Club in Port Acres and foster parents.

 

Survivors include his wife, Marion Tompkins of Port Acres; daughters, Lori Fuller of Beauxart Gardens; Tammy Claude and her husband, James, of Kirbyville; Emily Marler and her husband, Chuck, of Alaska; Kimmy Thomas of Vidor; Lois Fontonot and her husband, Mark, of Sulphur, Louisiana; Linda Roth of Dallas; sons, Daren Tompkins and his wife, Chrissy, of Port Neches; and Dustin Tompkins of Port Acres; twenty-seven other foster children; brother, LeRoy Tompkins and his wife, Ruth, of Nederland; sisters, Linda Cherry of Nederland and Lynette Woodson of Port Arthur; sister-in-law, Mary Sue Tompkins of Nederland; grandchildren, Destianey, Kayli, Tristan, Cameron, Paula, Brenda, Brandon, Tyler, Jaxson, Jessica, Richard, and  Amber; and many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jerry Tompkins and Barney Tompkins.

 

A gathering of Mr. Tompkins’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, 2208 Canal Street, Port Acres. His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
