Betty Joyce McBroom, 77, of Beaumont, died Friday, July 25, 2014. She was born on December 2, 1936, to Lena Boullion Ortego and William Ortego, in Vinton, Louisiana. Betty worked as a secretary in many of the local school libraries and was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Beaumont. Betty loved to travel and her and Milton shared many wonderful adventures together. Her greatest adventure was being a grandmother and a great-grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-nine years, Joseph “Milton” McBroom; sons, Richard Carl McBroom and his wife, Kim Moore, of Winnie; and Craig McBroom and his wife, Dee, and David McBroom and his wife, Macy, both of Vidor; daughter, Bridgett McBroom Hlavinka and her husband, Keith, of Beaumont; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A gathering of Mrs. McBroom’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 28, 2014, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Broussard’s, with a burial immediately following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to her caregivers who lovingly provided compassion and companionship to both her and Milton. Their service was a comfort to the family.
