Verna Brooks, 85, of Beaumont, died Thursday, June 26, 2014. She was born on March 23, 1929, to Amiee Pormier Vallot and Joe Albert Vallot, Sr., in Youngsville, Louisiana. She loved to cook, especially Cajun food and fried chicken. Her kids and grandkids were her life.

Survivors include her children, Jennifer Lynn DeShazo and Debbie Ann Chamberlain and her husband, Will, both of Beaumont; and George C. Brooks III and his wife, Kitty, of Mauriceville; grandchildren, Sonya Duke, Crystal Bryan, Eric Salter, Kurt Hayes, Gabe Brooks, Charlie Brooks; eight-great grandchildren; brothers, Mickey Vallot, Anthony Vallot, Michael Vallot; and sisters, Shirley Ann Hoffpauir and Amy Durand.

She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, George C. Brooks, Jr.; four sisters; and a brother.

A gathering of Mrs. Brooks’ family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with her funeral service to begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
