William “Bill” Tetley, 74, of Nederland, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. A lifelong resident of Beaumont, he was born on December 29, 1939, to Florence Boon and William Tetley, Sr.

After graduating from Saint Anthony’s Catholic High School in Beaumont, Bill went on to attend Lamar University for under grad, and then Stephen F. Austin for his Master’s degree. He taught Elementary PE and Math for thirty years, and then taught College Math at Lamar University. During the late 60’s through the early 80’s he worked as a summer camp counselor at Camp Stewart for boys, and volunteered for the Beaumont Chapter of the Red Cross. Bill was on the Board of Directors for the Texas Forestry Museum in Lufkin and took part in building and maintaining the hiking trails. He was a member of the Serra Club of Beaumont and the Tyler County Forest Landowners Association. Bill loved square dancing and spent many hours traveling across the state attending square and round dance competitions.  

Bill is survived by his sister, Ann Tetley Howerton of San Angelo; nieces, Katie Howerton Landry of Austin, Martha Howerton Pattie of Houston, and Lacy Howerton Wolfe of Mentor, Ohio; nephew, David Howerton of Plano; great-nieces, Megan Schniers Martin, Eliza Pattie, and Lauren Wolfe; great-nephews, Kevin Schniers, Ethan Pattie, and Logan Howerton; great-great-nephews, Gavin and Colton Schniers; and great-great-niece, Hazel Martin.

A gathering of Mr. Tetley’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 20, 2014, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2006 Nall Street, Port Neches, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

A special thank goes out to his friends and niece, Martha Howerton Pattie, who took the time to visit him in the hospital and drive him to doctor’s appointments.  He appreciated the personal visits more than you know.
