James D. Layfield 
December 9, 1922 - May 15, 2014

James D. Layfield, 91, of Lumberton, died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Beaumont.  He was born on December 9, 1922, in San Augustine County, to Clara Mathis Layfield and Farley Layfield.  James was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II and was a retired gauger with Sun Oil Company.

 

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Layfield; son, Larry Dewayne Layfield and his wife, Carol, of Lumberton; step-children, Dale Fillingim of Lumberton; Beulah Grant and her husband, Edward, of Sour Lake; and Donny Fillingim of Kountze; grandchildren, Savanah Layfield, Carolyn Layfield, and Catherine Layfield;  eight step-grandchildren, Regina Miller, Angela Warrick, Justin Thompson, Tyler Thompson, Seth Clark, Jason Cox, Afran Fillingim, and Donald Dale Fillingim; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild to be born any day now.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronnie Layfield; and brother, Leonard Layfield.

 

A gathering of Mr. Layfield’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.  His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.
