Phil Holmes Turner 
June 14, 1951 - April 21, 2014

Phil Holmes Turner, 62, of Beach City, died Monday April 21, 2014.  He was born on June 14, 1951, in Call, Texas, to Mary Holmes Turner and Johnie Turner.

 

Johnie worked on a Texaco drilling rig, moving every few months, until the family settled in Hamshire.  After graduating from Hamshire-Fannett, Phil spent a short time in college before being employed by U.S. Steel in Baytown. When that facility closed, he went to culinary school and was employed as a “chef” on a tug boat for a time.  When J.S.W. Steel started up the plant, Phil was hired and worked in the plate mill rolling department from 1997 until his death.  His hobbies included scuba diving, photography, biking, cooking and playing “the horses.” 

 

Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Janie and Bill Jordan of Hamshire; brother and sister-in-law, John and Geraldine Turner of Burnet; nieces, Christina Basye, Marla Broussard, Rachel Reich, Lori Boyles, Pauline Jones and Sandra Bryant; nine great-nieces, six great-nephews and many friends.

 

A memorial service for Mr. Turner will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 25304 Highway 124, Hamshire.
