Charles Ray Swearengin

Charles Ray Swearengin, 86, of Lumberton, entered into eternal peace on Monday, April 7, 2014. He was born on March 8, 1928, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Nettie Nelson Swearengin and William Swearengin. He was a proud veteran that served in the United States Navy during World War II and later retired from Mobil Chemical in Beaumont after over thirty years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; children, Martha Selensky and her husband, Jacob, of Beaumont; Mike Swearengin and his wife, Shawnda, of Cabot, AR; and Susie Biri and her husband, Todd, of Bridge City; stepdaughter, Kim Clark and her husband, Rob, of Houston; and grandchildren, Jason Selensky; Charles Selensky; Geoff Swearengin; Jill Biri; Shane Biri; Angie Biri; Keith Biri; Sarah Clark; Currie Clark; and Kate Clark. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel Swearengin; son, Steve Swearengin; and three brothers and three sisters.
A native of Vivian, LA and long-time resident of Nederland where he raised his family, he retired in Lumberton where he was a member of Fletcher Emanuel Church Alive. He enjoyed planning vacations in the family RV, both in his earlier years when his children were young and throughout his retirement. He loved the outdoors and was always ready to go out and enjoy a good meal. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends who will cherish their wonderful memories.
A gathering of Mr. Swearengin’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2014. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont.
