Richard Raphael Heartfield, 89, died at his residence, in Beaumont, March 29, 2014. He was born on May 19, 1924, to Paulette Gibaud Heartfield and James R. Heartfield in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a graduate of Beaumont High School and Texas A&M University. Richard served as a flight officer in the United States Army Air Corps. After his military service, he returned to Beaumont to work. He owned and operated Heartfield Tile and Heartfield Co. for over sixty years. Richard was an avid hunter, fisherman, and private pilot. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Beaumont.

Survivors include his son, James D. Heartfield and daughter, Nancy H. Maxwell; both of Beaumont; sister, Miriam Dietenhofer of Pinehurst, North Carolina; nephews, Daryl Lauhoff and Randy Lauhoff; and many other nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Anna E. Gross.

A gathering of Mr. Heartfield’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
