Opal Odean Rivers, 85, of Silsbee, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Silsbee Oaks Healthcare, after a four year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on August 17, 1928, in Polk County, to Clara Johnson Kinard and Elton Kinard, and had been a resident of Silsbee for sixty-two years. Opal was a retired retail clerk with Sears. She is survived by her husband, Andrew “Peanut” Rivers; daughter, Gail Young and her husband, Scott, of Flower Mound; grandchildren, Andy Bailey and his wife, Candice, of Katy and Dillon Young of Flower Mound; great-grandchildren, Nolan Bailey and Keegan Bailey; and sisters, Ima Jean Rainey of Pineland; Margie McIntyre and her husband, L.D., of Silsbee; Linda Pryor and her husband, Paul, of Midland; Ginger Koopmann and her husband, Garlan, of Santa Fe, Texas; and Shirley Fontenote and her husband, Raymond, of Nederland. Opal is preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Kinard and Kenneth Kinard. A gathering of Mrs. Rivers’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 2, 2014, at First Pentecostal Church, 1420 North 5th Street, Silsbee, with interment to follow at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery, Silsbee.
