Mildred Sonnier, 83, of Hamshire, died Friday, February 14, 2014. She was born on October 29, 1930, in Pine Island, Louisiana, to Eudea Fontenot and Julian Bertrand, and had been a resident of the Hamshire-Winnie area for over seventy years. Mildred will be remembered as a loving foster mother and a fantastic cook. She also enjoyed camping.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Sonnier of Anahuac; Brett Sonnier and his wife, Gail, of Hankamer; and Kevin Sonnier of Nederland; daughters, Janet DeYoung and her husband, Wayne, of Stowell; Regina Harrington of Spring; Carolyn Beckcom and her husband, Matt, of San Antonio; and Carlotta Dodson and her husband, Carlos, of Porter; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; brother, Alexson Bertrand and his wife, Trixie, of Winnie; and a host of other family members and friends.  

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C. J. Sonnier; son, David Sonnier; five sisters; and four brothers.

A gathering of Mrs. Sonnier’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2014, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 W. Buccaneer Drive, Winnie with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
