Willa Dean Hammonds

Mrs. Willa Dean Hammonds, 97, of Nederland, Texas died Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. She was born on July 10, 1916, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee to Joe W. Crews and Rose Dora Gobel Crews. Mrs. Hammonds received her education in Lawrenceburg, graduating high school in 1934. She married James Hollis Hammonds on December 24, 1936, in Leoma, Tennessee. They moved to Toledo, Ohio area in 1937, where they made their home for the next thirty-one years. In April, 1968, they moved to Nederland, Texas where she made her home until her death. Mrs. Hammonds was baptized in a creek near her home in 1928, by brother E.E. Edens, a family friend and traveling preacher. She was a member of the Nederland Church of Christ.
Mrs. Hammonds was preceded in death by her husband, James Hollis Hammonds in January, 1977; sons, Jerry and Ronnie Hammonds; parents; and siblings, Margie Crews, Mark Crews, Arlie Crews, Myrta Crews, Vera Kitchen, Mamee Clayton, Edith Bedford, Louise Jenkins, and her twin brother Bill.
She is survived by five sons, Don and wife Tesha Hammonds of Grand Junction, Colorado; Jimmy Hammonds of Nederland, Texas; David and wife Shirley of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Mike Hammonds of Nederland, Texas; Jeff and wife Camille Hammonds of Aurora, Oregon; one daughter, Cheryl Everett of Traverse City, Michigan and very special friend and caregiver, Eddie Eason of Nederland. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and many wonderful friends.
