Mathew Carl Oszczakiewicz
April 30, 1921 - January 23, 2014

Mathew Carl Oszczakiewicz was born on April 30, 1921, to Michal Carl and Julia Jastrob Oszczakiewicz. He grew up in Northampton, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from High School in 1939. Mat began his United States Naval career in 1940. He achieved the rank of Chief Yeoman and was honorably discharged in 1970. There are few locations Mat did not tour during his naval career. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and he ended his career with the Fleet Reserve. Mat was awarded several medals including the Bronze American Defense medal for the American and the Asian Pacific Areas, a World War II Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.

Mat married Ruth Evelyn Bishop of Ireland in November of 1945. They enjoyed a good marriage and shared life in many locations. Their favorites were Key West, Florida and Chesapeake, Virginia. They loved sports, the outdoors, and traveling.  Ruth preceded her husband passing in 1978.

Mat relocated to Texas after retiring from the Petrochemical Industry in 1980.  He moved near his brother Thomas and his wife, Annabel. Mat was a blessing to all who knew him and enjoyed good health until recently.  He passed sleeping, surrounded by family, and did not suffer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and four brothers; Casimir, Walter, Joseph, and Stanley. He leaves behind one sister; Helen Nowik of Northampton, Pennsylvania and Thomas, of Beaumont, along with a host of adoring family members throughout the country.

Mathew Oszczakiewicz led a full and honorable life and will be missed terribly.

A Catholic service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Broussard's Mortuary, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont, Texas. As per his wishes, he will be buried at sea under the direction of the United States Navy.

In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations to the Wounded Warrior's Foundation, 4301 Fillbrook Lane, Tyler, Texas 75707. Our family thanks Karen Williams P.A. and all the caregivers at Collier Park and Summer Place who attended this good man in his time of need. Na Zdrowie!
