Dorothy Mae Wallette Smith, 89, of Beaumont, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014, on her 71st wedding anniversary, with her family by her side. A native of Naborton, DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, she was born on June 8, 1924, to Della Mae Devoltz Wallette and Jessie Lambert Wallette. Dorothy graduated from Rusk High School, Rusk, Texas, in 1942. She married Harold Sidney Smith on January 16, 1943. Together they moved to Houston, Port Arthur, and then settled in Beaumont in 1957. Over the years, she held jobs at the Fair Store, Thom McAn Shoes, JC Penny, Sam’s Western Store, and Branding Iron Western Store. Dorothy participated in PTA serving as President and was a member of Dowlen Road Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Sherrie Ray and her husband, Don; sons, Roger Smith and his wife, Betsy and Glenn Smith and his wife, Aimee; grandchildren, Caitlin Smith, Brittnie Smith, Carleigh Smith, and Lauren Smith; niece, Jacqueline Wallette Sternat and her husband, Stephen, and their daughter, Jessi Leigh; and caregiver, Kadie Free. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Harold Sidney Smith; grandson, Jonathon Thomas Smith; and brothers, Jessie Lambert Wallette, William Henry Wallette, and Carl L. Wallette. A gathering of Mrs. Smith’s family and friends will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her graveside service will be 3:30 p.m., Saturday afternoon, at Jarratt Cemetery, Jacksonville, Texas. |
