Mary Elizabeth Turner Lucas, 83, of Beaumont, died Saturday, December 7, 2013, unexpectedly at her home.She was born on June 4, 1930, in Washington, D.C. to Gertrude G. Draper Turner and Charles R. Turner.She grew up in Hyattsville, Maryland; Glen Ridge, New Jersey; and Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. Mary graduated from Upper Darby High School in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. While at Penn State, she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority.

Mary met William Lucas while working at Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO).The two were married in 1956, and they were married for fifty-seven years. She was an avid Bridge player, phenomenal cook, and tough to beat at Trivial Pursuit and Jeopardy. Bill and Mary traveled the world going as far as the Arctic Circle, Europe, Asia, Australia, and going through the Panama Canal.She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Woman’s Club of Beaumont.

Mary was a loving wife to William R. Lucas; mother to Steven R. Lucas and his wife, Robin, of Beaumont; Jeffrey C. Lucas of Spring; and Karen E. Domingue and her husband, Mark, of Beaumont; a devoted grandmother to William D. Lucas, his fiancée, Amanda Woolley, and Andrew R. Lucas. She is also survived by her sister, Edith G. McDavitt and her husband, William, of West Chester, Pennsylvania; and cousin, George C. Rogers and his wife, Sarah, of Arlington, Massachusetts.

She is preceded in death by parents; and her brother, Charles R. Turner, Jr.

A gathering of Mrs. Lucas’ family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with her memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
