Sonja D. Carroll, 73, of Fannett and formerly of Galesburg, Illinois, peacefully passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation, Beaumont.  She was the third daughter born to Elvin and Dessie McFarling, on May 15, 1940, in Morehouse, Missouri. 

After moving to Galesburg with her parents, she was employed as a car hop at the Huddle, a dance instructor at Arthur Murray’s Dance Studio, and St. Mary’s Hospital where she retired in 1995.  She raised two children, attended services at First Church of God, and did everything she could to do to take care of others she loved.  She married Robert “Bob” Carroll on March 17, 1978, and moved with most of her family to Beaumont in 1995.  She was employed by St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur for a time.

Survivors include her loving husband, Robert Carroll; daughter, Rhonda O’Dell and her husband, Steve; son, Steve Dawson and his wife, Debbie; daughter-in-law, Nona Carroll; sister, Patricia VanHorn; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joy Mannen; and son, Richard “Rick” Carroll.

A gathering of Mrs. Carroll’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.  Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 5, 2013, at Broussard’s. Her committal will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
