Edward Harland Holst 
January 25, 1930 - November 28, 2013

 

 

Edward Harland Holst, 83, of Nederland, died Thursday, November 28, 2013, at his home. He was born January 25, 1930, to Hiram and Marie Holst in Beaumont, and had been a lifelong resident of the area. Harland earned a Ph.D.in Chemistry from Penn State University and worked as a Chemist for Texaco Research until his retirement in 1987. An active member of First Baptist Church Nederland since 1959, Harland also served as a Deacon for many years.  He was a lifelong member of the Lion’s Club and a former board member for N.I.S.D.  Earning the Scout Rank of Eagle helped Harland develop his lifelong passion for hunting and the outdoors.  Most of all, Harland was a devoted husband and father who greatly appreciated, loved and cared for his family.

 

He is survived by his wife, Jaynet Holst of Nederland; daughters, Alice Mankoff of Denton, Karen Holst of Stephenville and Debbie Gutierrez of League City; sons, Tommy Holst and his wife, Grace E. Bodemuller-Holst, of Rockwall and Michael Holst of Nederland; grandchildren, Kate Dolkas and her husband, Matt, Benjamin Mankoff, Kindell Holst, Savanna Holst, Rachel Gutierrez, Jameson Gutierrez, Blake Holst and his fiancé, Ashley Kovatch; great-grandchild Ava Claire Holst; brother, Giles Holst; and sister, Stella Kincaid.

 

 Harland is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother.

 

A gathering of Mr. Holst’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 2, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 1911 Nederland Avenue, Nederland, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
