Edward
Harland Holst, 83, of Nederland, died Thursday, November 28, 2013, at his home.
He was born January 25, 1930, to Hiram and Marie Holst in Beaumont, and had
been a lifelong resident of the area. Harland earned a Ph.D.in Chemistry from
Penn State University and worked as a Chemist for Texaco Research until his
retirement in 1987. An active member of First Baptist Church Nederland since
1959, Harland also served as a Deacon for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Lion’s Club
and a former board member for N.I.S.D.
Earning the Scout Rank of Eagle helped Harland develop his lifelong
passion for hunting and the outdoors.
Most of all, Harland was a devoted husband and father who greatly
appreciated, loved and cared for his family. He
is survived by his wife, Jaynet Holst of Nederland; daughters, Alice Mankoff of
Denton, Karen Holst of Stephenville and Debbie Gutierrez of League City; sons,
Tommy Holst and his wife, Grace E. Bodemuller-Holst, of Rockwall and Michael
Holst of Nederland; grandchildren, Kate Dolkas and her husband, Matt, Benjamin
Mankoff, Kindell Holst, Savanna Holst, Rachel Gutierrez, Jameson Gutierrez,
Blake Holst and his fiancé, Ashley Kovatch; great-grandchild Ava Claire Holst;
brother, Giles Holst; and sister, Stella Kincaid. A
gathering of Mr. Holst’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00
p.m., Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th
Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 2,
2013, at First Baptist Church, 1911 Nederland Avenue, Nederland, with interment
to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches. Memorial
