Velta Mae Chauvin Kershaw, 85, of Hutto, died Monday, November 25, 2013. She was born September 20, 1928, to Olina and John Gaston Chauvin in Abbeville, Louisiana and had been a resident of the Mid-County area most of her life. Velta graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree and spent her career working as a school teacher before retiring from Hamshire-Fannett Independent School District.

She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Peterson and her husband, Stan, of Gautier, Mississippi; son, Jerry Trahan and his wife, Alice, of Hutto; grandchildren, Stephanie Savage, Corey Trahan, Erin Shank, Ashley Cloud and Jerry Imhoff; great-grandchildren, Jason Savage, Hunter Imoff, William Cloud, Reese Cloud, Eden Shank and Paige Shank; sister, Velma Begnaud; and brother, Oscar Chauvin and his wife, Earline.

Velta is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Harry Kershaw.

A memorial service for Mrs. Kershaw will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.

A private family committal will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
