Evelyn Katherine Carr Menge, 89, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013, in Silsbee, surrounded by her loved ones at home. She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Katherine and Ernest Carr, on July 28, 1924.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Billy Menge. They met in 1953 at Kay and Jay's Roller Rink which was owned by her family. Evelyn was devoted to caring for children for over twenty-two years and was the owner of Amelia Nursery School. She had other ventures along the way as she also owned New Orleans Snow Wiz Shop located in South Park. Evelyn was a long time member of North End Baptist Church and served in many areas throughout the years.

She is survived by her daughters, Judy Frazier and her husband, James, of Silsbee; Connie Collins and her husband, Gary, of Nederland; and Lynda Menge and Kim Morvent, both of Houston; stepdaughter, Genee Menge Rogers of Venezuela; grandchildren, Suzanne Shaaban of The Woodlands, and Cody and Corey Phelps, both of Nederland; great-grandson, Cody Phelps Jr. of Nederland; sister, Doris Dickerson of Marietta, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mrs. Menge’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Broussards, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2013, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Beaumont.
