Samuel Otha Gandy, Jr. 
July 30, 1928 - October 31, 2013

Samuel Otha Gandy, Jr., 85, of Kountze, died Thursday, October 31, 2013.  He was born July 30, 1928, in Fort Worth, to Mamie Lucille Massey Gandy and Samuel Otha Gandy, Sr.

 

Otha retired from Chicago Bridge and Iron as safety manager.  He was mostly well known in this area because of his main vocation in the ministry.  He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses being ordained March 15, 1943. Otha has served congregations in Fort Worth, Orange, Magnolia, Arkansas, Jasper, Vidor, and Silsbee.  At his death, he was serving in the Beaumont Central Congregation.  He served as Assembly Overseer for Texas Circuit #4 for thirty-two years.

 

Survivors include his daughters, Gloria Smith of Alexandria, Louisiana and Cindy Clyburn and her husband, Will, of Kountze; granddaughters, Rachel Ross of Many, Louisiana and Jamie Martin of Alexandria, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Sabrina, and Beau Ross and Ashton, Aaron, Adam, and Kaylee Martin; great-great-grandchild, Righlea Martin; sister, Donnie Dietz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Annie Ruth Alexander Gandy; parents; stepmother, Irene Hauptvogel Gandy; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Massey; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Gandy; sisters, Betty Bender and Marion Gray; and brother, R. L. Gandy.

 

A memorial service for Mr. Gandy will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 2350 North Major Drive, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. His committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
