DeWitt
F. “Hack” Moorer, Jr., 89, of Nederland, went to be with the Lord, Monday,
October 7, 2013. He was born January 12, 1924, to Abbie Leona Meiden and DeWitt
Franklin Moorer, Sr. in Silver Cross, Alabama, and had been a resident of the
area since 1945. Hack was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in
World War II. He enjoyed playing football during his high school years in
Leroy, Alabama. Hack retired after working forty years as a blacksmith with
Neches Butane and was a member of International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers, Local #0305. He enjoyed gardening and turkey and deer hunting.
Hack
is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Mollie Moorer; daughters, Karen
Moorer of Houston and Karla Quinn and her husband, David of Nederland; grandchildren,
Ryan, Caleb and Abigail Quinn; sisters, Willie Mae White of Mobile, Alabama,
Betty Pullen and her husband, Bob, of Eight Mile, Alabama, Mary Hearon and her
husband, Bill, of Daphne, Alabama and Sue Mason and her husband, D.C., of
Isney, Alabama; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A
gathering of Mr. Moorer’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00
p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th
Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 10,
2013, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port
Neches.
