Verna Mae Manuel Scott, 87, of Beaumont, died Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Village Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Lumberton. She was born on July 9, 1926, in Eunice, Louisiana, to Louise Guillory Manuel and Paul Artzen Manuel, and had been a long time resident of the area. Verna was baptized into the Church of Christ in the little town of Glenwood, Arkansas.

She is survived by her sons, Charles DeQueant of New Orleans, Louisiana and Michael DeQueant of Beaumont, Texas; daughters, Betty Boyett of Buna, Texas, Loretta Brown of Beaumont, Texas, and Litha Walker of Beaumont, Mississippi; twenty-four grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Joyce Baker of Lumberton, Texas.

Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Jack E. Scott; parents; and daughter, Barbara Israel.

A gathering of Mrs. Scott’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at China Cemetery, China.
