Katherine Wainwright, 91, of Vidor, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Oakwood Manor, Vidor. She was born on, September 1, 1922, in Jennings, Louisiana, to Rosie Scanlan Wainwright and Augustus Hastings Wainwright, and had been a longtime resident of the Vidor area. Katie was saved and baptized in water at First Baptist Church, Bunkie, Louisiana, seventy years ago in March of 1943. In 1977, she was a member of Oberlin Assembly of God, and made an application with Louisiana Assembly of God for a license to preach. Katie became an Ordained Minister in 1980. Her elementary and high school education was from Hull-Daisetta Independent School District and later graduated from Louisiana College, Pineville, Louisiana with a BA degree in Bible and Psychology. Along with being a minister of the gospel, she also taught Sunday school and was a leader in youth ministries. Katie always had interest in “helping others”, she was gifted in ministering to the elderly. She was involved in nursing home ministries and always supported her local church. Her heart was for missions, especially home missions, and she was a supporter of the States Deaf ministries. Katie was employed as a social worker for the State of Louisiana; she used her expertise in counseling to help others. Katherine is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by seven siblings, Lorena Null, Rosa Schultz, Modest Turner, Mary Matthews, Ella Block, Charles Wainwright, and Earl Wainwright. A gathering of Miss Wainwright’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. There will be an additional gathering beginning at 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Broussard’s, with a graveside service to follow at 2:30 p.m., at Liberty City Cemetery, Liberty.
