Hilda Marie Matthews, 53, of Winnie, died Tuesday, September 17, 2018, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. She was born on January 11, 1960, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Eva Jean Breaux Matthews and Elzie Matthews, Sr.

Hilda was a retired cafeteria worker with Hamshire-Fannett Independent School District. She enjoyed playing computer games, listening to cajun music and loved being with her family.

Hilda is survived by her mother, Eva Jean Matthews of Winnie; sons, Chris Matthews of Winnie, Frederick “J. R.” Slezak of Fannett, and William Slezak of Winnie; brothers, Elzie Matthews Jr, and his wife, Donnette; Mason Matthews and his wife, Marsha, all of Stowell; Robert Matthews and his wife, Cheryl, of Hamshire; Wayne Matthews and his wife, Tina; and Herman McFarland all of Winnie; sister, Julia Trahan and her husband, Swendale, of Hamshire; and numerous other family members and friends.

A gathering of Hilda’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
