Elvera A. Plaia

Elvera Amelia Plaia, 95, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013, in High Point, North Carolina. A native and lifelong resident of Beaumont, she was born on September 1, 1918, to Josephine Liberto Fertitta and Joseph Fertitta. She was a graduate of Beaumont High School and a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, before moving to North Carolina seven years ago. Elvera was a very devout Catholic and attended Mass daily. She was a homemaker and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Theresa Plaia Stahl; grandchildren, Michael James Plaia, and his wife, Robin; James Anthony Plaia and wife, Hope; and Jamie Antoinette Bohl and her husband, Ted; great-grandchildren, Sophia Marie Plaia, Carminie Plaia, Theodore Joseph Bohl, Jenna Elizabeth Bohl, and John Anthony Bohl; sister, Mary Elizabeth Danna; and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Anthony Plaia; sons, James Anthony Plaia and Joseph Michael Plaia; sisters, Venera “Lena” Brocato, Josephine (Sr. Philothea) Fertitta, Virginia LaRocca, Margaret Fertitta, and Helen Farinella; and brothers, Salvatore “Sam” Fertitta, Pasquale “Charles” Fertitta, Rosario “Cyril” Fertitta, Anthony J. Fertitta, Louis J. Fertitta, and Henry Fertitta. A gathering of Mrs. Plaia’s family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1115 Orange Street, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
