Maxine Spurlock Meek, 96, of Beaumont, left her earthly life on Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. She was born on August 1, 1917, in Hillister, to Ida Williford Spurlock and Charles S. Spurlock, and has been a longtime resident of the area.

Maxine married Joe Field Meek in 1943, in Baytown, Texas. There they had three children, Rosemary, Joe Field, Jr. (Jody), and Stephen Charles. Maxine and Joe lovingly cared for Jody, who was afflicted from birth with cerebral palsy, throughout his life. In 1958 they moved to Beaumont, where the family became active members of Trinity United Methodist Church. Maxine and Joe served as the church’s representatives to the United Methodist Annual Conference for a number of years. Maxine was involved for many years as a volunteer at Some Other Place and in the church office. She and Joe were active members of the John Land Sunday School Class.

Maxine’s family remembers her as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her greatest happiness in life was having her family all together, whether it be for Christmas, Thanksgiving and other family gatherings, or trips to Colorado. She leaves her family a legacy of her unconditional love, her generosity of heart, her love and appreciation of beauty and nature, and her Christian faith.
