Billy "Bill" R. Wood

Billy R. Wood,
83, claimed his heavenly home on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at his home in Port
Arthur. Bill was born in Nacogdoches, on July 7, 1930. He moved with his family
at an early age to Port Arthur where he attended school. Bill was a graduate of
Warren Easton Senior High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was also a
veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War.
Upon his
return home, Bill met and married the love of his life, Marie Hebert, and they
settled in Nederland. He was a sixty-five year member of the International
Brotherhood Electrical Workers and National Electrical Contractors Association.
Bill and Marie were owners of Wright Electric Company in Port Neches for many
years. He was also a member of First Baptist Church, Nederland.
Bill is
preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Marie Hebert Wood; parents,
Ruel Harry and Myrtle Lee Jackson Wood, sister, Dorothy Wood Scott; and
brother, Jerry Wood. He leaves to reflect the love of Christ his sons, Charles
Wood and his wife, Mary and Mike Wood and his wife, Lisa, all of Port Neches;
and his daughter, Susan Wood Tomplait of Nederland. A special place in his
heart belonged to his grandchildren, Stacy, John, Adam and Brent; and
great-grandchildren, Darian and Zachary.
A gathering of
Mr. Wood’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday,
September 3, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at
Broussard’s, with Bill’s son, Chaplain Mike Wood officiating. Interment will
follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches. Serving as pallbearers will be
John Wood, Brent Wood, Walter Wood, Adam Tomplait, Eddie Shotwell, and Joe
Holland.
