To Aunt Mouriel's family, Here are a few of my childhood memories of Aunt Mouriel that I would like to share. Her house was always filled with delicious food smells and she kept a supply of caramel candies that always had my attention when I was a little girl. I was probably seven when spending an early Saturday with her she took me to get an ice cream cone at Carnations. I was sitting on top of the world in the backseat of her new Cadillac with a two scoop chocolate cone when it started melting faster than I could lick and I anxiously told her what was happening. She said, "Well throw it out the window!" So I did--only the window wasn't down. Ugh! What a mess! I was mortified. Fortunately, she was a block from her sister Evelyn's house and she cleaned up the mess there. I was so afraid but she didn't say a word more about it. I also remember her sitting around her kitchen table or at the stove talking with a visiting sister or friend- always warm and exuberant. She was kind and welcoming to my mother Nola and it was always dear to me the way she loved my little brother Craig. I am grateful to have known her and to have had an aunt whose welcoming ways always made me feel part of the family. Sandra, I am sorry I couldn't be with your dear family to say goodbye to your precious mother. I'm glad you had the blessing of having such a wonderful mother and that your separation is only temporary.
