Thanks for the friendship and the many conversations. You always had a smile and a story for me whenever I came in for a haircut -- you made me feel special, and I always left your shop with a good feeling. I'll miss you, old buddy.

Roxie, I am so sorry for the loss of David. I have a lot of memories from when we were kids and spending the night with you and of course David picking on us! My oldest son lived in Sour Lake for several years, he was pastor at Grayburg Baptist Church, and has many memories of David, as does my grandson, Taylor. David not only cut their hair, but he "employed" Taylor to sweep for him. He will be truly missed. Again, I am so sorry, my friend.

I probably can't imagine yet how much I'm going to miss David. I first knew him when Mom worked at the post office when he was still a young barber and then I was forturnate to work across the street from him at Radley Electric for many years. David's shop was the hub of Sour Lake where you could go to have some good laughs and catch up on the latest gossip and news. He knew it all and if he didn't, just give him a few mintures and he'd find out about it for you. Everyone gathered at his shop on 9/11 in front of the television because his was the place you wanted to be. He would call me and want me to come to his shop; I would always be fearful not knowing what kind of joke he was going to pull on me next. He was always asking how my love life was and trying to "fix me up" with some of the "eligible bachelors" in town and if you know David, you can imagine which ones he chose for me! I hesitated to go in the shop for a visit because if he had someone in the chair, I would get the evil eye from them because, of course, David would stop cutting their hair to chat with me and no telling how many times that had already happened during the course of their haircut. There is already a huge hole in town with the loss of David that can never be filled. I got to tell him not too long ago how much his friendship has meant to me over the years and I'm glad now I did--he knew it though--he knew everything!
