For My Sister: The Farewell

Appropriately, it's possible one may state an essay when saying “goodbye” to my sister. Her most recent hospitalization of just one week brought unexpected complications in her illness, therefore up to, and within, 48 hours of her passing, she was lucid, joyful, and had the ability to verbally converse. Her unexpected passing prompts emotions and thoughts to one’s heart for all who knew her.

She was Patricia Ann (Welch) Riddle … “Trisha” as I have known her, and “Pat” to most other family and friends.

She was preceded in death (within the last year) by her husband John Riddle, her only biological child her son William Joseph Wiggs, and her precious little dog of more than 20 years “Stuart Little”. As well as having earlier been preceded by her Father (William Welch), Mother (Frances McCullough), Step-Father (Herman McCullough), Step-Mother (Charlene Welch-Brewer), Brother (Frank Henry Welch), Half-Sister (Kristy Martinez), Step-Brother (Gary Purcell), Paternal Grandparents (Frank and Lottie (Christie) Welch), and Maternal Grandparents (John Edd and Fannie (Dyson) Heimes) and several Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and various additional and other extended family members.

The coast (Crystal Beach, Tx specifically) prevailed as a place of great pleasure in her life. She loved the outdoors. She had enjoyed fishing/camping from childhood through her adulthood. She was a country girl at heart who enjoyed the outdoors: fishing local rivers in her youth, and always home-grown vegetable gardening. She currently has a crop of strawberries growing in her winter garden in her back yard … her two grandchildren enjoyed the succulence of their taste as they wished their Grandmother a loving goodbye after her passing. She was the owner of Pat’s Used Cars and several other business adventures during her adulthood. She loved her family and enjoyed the interaction she shared with them.

She leaves behind her biological granddaughter Dianna Gayle Hooeyboer of Elgin, Texas. And siblings to include half-brothers Larry and Charles Ray (Bimbo) Welch, and a half-sister Machelle Vasquez, each of Lufkin, Texas. Step-sisters Mary Lou Hudson of San Antonio, Texas and Janet Kilgore of Diboll, Texas. As well as step-sons John Raymond and James Dean Riddle, Sr. of Nederland, Texas. And step- grandsons James Dean (Dino) Riddle, Jr. and Barrett Riddle of Nederland and step great-grandchildren Josephine and James Dean Riddle III of Nederland, Texas. Her Aunt Paulene (Welch) Martin and cousins Paula Sharon Cantrell and Carson Wayne Newman each of Houston, Texas. As well as cousins Ronald Dean Davenport of Crockett, Texas, Dennis Alton Davenport of Montgomery, Texas, and niece Lavonne Conner of Huntington, Texas and nephews Charles Marcus Conner of California and Jimmy (Butch) Welch of Longview, Texas. And various additional extended family members.

She was a good soldier for the Lord, she honored Christian beliefs and idealisms and lived with a moral turpitude. Having shared the love and wisdom she imparted with us on earth, her family and friends take solace in knowing she is no longer in need of dire medical attention and is at peace in the arms of Angels and with our Lord. Her spirit will forever reside where spring is the only season, and where peace prevails uninterrupted, eternally.

Lily Walters (Warren, TX)

I send my love and prayers to the family. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one. My uncle was married to her mother and I loved Patricia dearly. I have not seen her in a long time and did not know where she was living. We know that she is in a better place and she is with her loved ones.

Sandra Andrus (Vidor, TX)

My sincerest condolences go out to Pats family. I grieve with you. She was such a sweet spirit and she will be deeply missed by so many. I hope you can take comfort, as I do, in the knowledge that at the end of this life as we know it there is a place where we will all meet again, a place where we never have to say goodbye.
