Cecil Simmons Ricks, Jr.
May 25, 1927 - January 15, 2013
Kay & Larry Bourghs (Groves, TX)

We know Cecil, from visiting with him & many others, who gather at the same spot at Central Mall in Port Arthur, from Monday thru Saturday evenings. We are in our 50s, but friendship knows no age. He was always such a blessing to see, & be greeted with a smile & a hug. We will fondly remember all of his stories; about his late wife, his children, his grandchildren, East Texas, his lake house, his WWII stories, and many other subjects; which were of importance to him or just on his mind at the time. Cecil was sitting talking with Kay, when Larry was being interviewed for a security officer position at Central Mall in May, 2012. Cecil was as delighted as we were, when Larry said he got hired. Kay is recovering from major foot surgery. We learned of Cecil's death, only after his funeral service was already held. We are heartbroken to not have been able to attend. We are blessed to have known Cecil and to have this chance to express our deepest sympathy to you, his family. With our prayers, Kay & Larry Bourghs

Elaine,, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. Haven't seen you in many years, but think of many good times that we had together while in high school. Did not realize that your mom had passed too. Praying for your family.

So sorry to hear about Cecil's passing. When I was director at the Senior Citizen center, he came to talk almost everyday. I remember his memories of his lake home and how much it meant to his wife and him. We only lived a block away. What I remember most is his smile he carried around and shared with everyone. Remembering the good times is a treasure. He loved his children and granchildren and he is at peace now. God bless all of you.
