From the heartfelt expressions of tribute entered here in Mike's guestbook, it is quite evident that he grew up to be the same kind, quick-to-smile and down-to-earth fellow I knew in school at J.L. Giles Elem. in South Park. He was so fun and funny, but definitely not a show-off. He apparently honed his early quick wit into a true gift that was well-used as an adult. I last saw Mike in the mid-seventies at a drive-in grocery there in Beaumont; the same "whole face" smile I knew from childhood greeted me and my 9-year old son. Many good memories remain with me from being friends with Mike. May great memories stay with his family and all who mourn his passing to help serve as anchors through the difficult times. My prayers are with the Gammill family at such a tremendous loss. I played baseball with Mike. It should be said that he was a very good baseball player, too. At sixteen, at a Colt League game, it was said that there was a major league scout there to see him play. He was very well liked by all. Again, my prayers are with you. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 |
